All data sheets: Decking screws
Hapatec black is the screw for fixing cladding and decking boards when the fastener should disappear on dark timber. A black decorative head on black cladding - oiled larch, thermally modified timber, facade boards painted black - leaves no grid of bright dots visible from across the street.
The material is martensitic stainless steel 1.4006 (C1), thermally hardened. Its breaking torque is 60 % higher than austenitic V2A and V4A, and in hardwood the breaking torque is exactly what decides whether the screw reaches full depth or shears its head off halfway. Service classes 1 to 3 under DIN EN 1995, which includes weather-exposed structures.
Three diameters and thirteen sizes: 4.0 x 35-60 mm with a TX 15 drive, 4.5 x 40-70 mm with TX 20 and 5.0 x 50-100 mm with TX 25. Milled ribs above the thread ease driving into any species, and the chip groove at the tip clears the swarf, which lowers the risk of splitting at the edge of the board.
Pre-drilling is recommended in hardwood - in decking and cladding work that is a condition, not a precaution. The steel is conditionally corrosion resistant and not acid resistant: not suitable for species high in tannins such as cumaru, oak, merbau or robinia, nor for salt and chlorine environments, meaning swimming pools and the coastal strip.
This screw fixes the cladding only to the battens. The battens themselves are fixed to the wall through the insulation with the EiSYS-2 adjusting screw from the same category - two different items in the same order.
